Quilts for Every Season: Understanding GSM and Choosing the Right Quilt
Your quilt is one of the most important pieces of bedding when it comes to regulating your body temperature and ensuring a restful night’s sleep. Choosing the right quilt for each season can be the key to staying comfortable as the weather changes. One of the most important factors to consider when selecting a quilt is the GSM (grams per square meter), which refers to the weight of the quilt’s filling. The GSM of a quilt helps determine its warmth level and how suitable it is for different seasons. What is GSM? GSM is a measure of the density of the quilt filling, which directly correlates to the quilt's warmth and insulation properties. A higher GSM means the quilt is filled with more material and provides greater warmth, while a lower GSM indicates a lighter quilt that’s more suited to warmer weather. Understanding GSM helps you choose the right quilt to match the climate and your personal preferences, ensuring you sleep comfortably all year long. Winter Quilts – High GSM for Maximum Warmth In the colder months, you want a quilt that will keep you warm and insulated while still allowing for breathability. A high-GSM quilt typically ranges from 400-600 GSM, with some even going higher, depending on the material and fill. These quilts are filled with more material, which traps heat and provides excellent warmth. Quilts with high GSM are perfect for winter, as they provide the necessary insulation to maintain body warmth without making you feel overly hot. Natural Fill Options: For winter, quilts filled with natural materials like alpaca or wool are often favoured for their ability to regulate temperature and provide warmth without bulk. Synthetic Fill Options: If you're looking for a synthetic option, polyester fill quilts with higher GSM are a great choice. These quilts provide ample warmth and are more affordable than down-filled quilts, making them an excellent option for budget-conscious buyers. Summer Quilts – Low GSM for Lightness and Breathability In the warmer months, a low-GSM quilt (typically ranging from 150-300 GSM) is more appropriate. Quilts with a lower GSM are lighter, breathable, and less insulating, allowing heat to escape while still providing just enough coverage for comfort during the night. With a low-GSM quilt, you can enjoy the benefits of a light, airy feel that won't leave you sweating in the heat. Natural Fill Options: Look for quilts with cotton or Tencel® fills for summer. These materials are naturally cool, lightweight, and breathable, making them ideal for warm weather. Synthetic Fill Options: If you're looking for a synthetic option, microfibre quilts with low GSM are a good choice for summer. Microfibre is soft, lightweight, and cool to the touch Transitional Seasons – Medium GSM for Versatility Spring and autumn bring fluctuating temperatures, which means you need a quilt that offers versatility. A medium-GSM quilt (usually around 300-400 GSM) is ideal for these transitional months. Quilts with a medium GSM provide the perfect balance of warmth and breathability, adapting to the changing temperatures and allowing you to sleep comfortably whether it's chilly at night or a little warmer. Natural Fill Options: A wool-filled quilt with medium GSM works wonderfully during these in-between seasons, as wool can regulate temperature. It keeps you warm when it's cool and allows for ventilation as temperatures rise. Choosing the Right GSM for Your Quilt For Winter: Look for quilts with a high GSM (400-600+) for warmth and insulation, choosing natural fills like down, alpaca or wool, or synthetic options like polyester fill for added affordability. For Summer: Opt for quilts with a low GSM (150-300) that are breathable and lightweight, made from materials like cotton, Tencel®, or microfibre to keep you cool and comfortable through hot nights. For Spring and Autumn: Select a medium-GSM (300-400) quilt to provide versatility, with options like wool, Ingeo or polyester that offer just the right amount of warmth and ventilation for fluctuating temperatures. Choosing the right quilt for each season is key to staying comfortable year-round. A higher GSM provides cosy warmth for winter, while a lower GSM ensures breathability in the warmer months. Having multiple quilt options lets you adapt easily to changing weather. Don’t forget to consider the material—whether you prefer natural fibres like wool, alpaca cotton, Tencel, or Ingeo, or synthetic ones like polyester and microfibre. The perfect quilt guarantees restful sleep, no matter the season.

8 Benefits of a Memory Foam Pillow
Do you wake up with a headache or a sore neck? Have trouble sleeping because you can’t find a comfortable spot on your pillow? Investing in a memory foam pillow could be the most comfortable solution to your sleeping problems. Memory foam pillows are filled with a type of foam that contours itself to your head and neck. A good quality memory foam pillow will give support by a slight push-back feel when you lie on it. So, if you’re struggling with your head and neck pain after sleeping, let us tell you about the benefits of a memory foam pillow that might offer a solution. 1. Head and Neck Support Your head weighs around 5kg. That’s a lot for a normal pillow to handle, which is why your head usually sinks deeply into the pillow, straining your neck and shoulders. This problem usually gets even worse over time, as your pillow ages and the material within becomes compacted and uneven. Memory foam contours itself to the shape of your head and neck and retains its shape. It supports your preferred sleeping position and reduces strain on your neck and spine. A memory foam pillow can also help to alleviate the burden on the pressure points in your neck and head, further helping to reduce pain. 2. Spine Support Your spine works hard all day every day, that’s why it’s important to rest it at night. The right pillow will keep your neck in the correct alignment with your chest and lower back to prevent strain on your spine whilst you sleep. A memory foam pillow is designed to encourage the natural alignment of the spine whilst also offering superior comfort and support to the upper body. 3. Hygienic and Hypoallergenic A memory foam pillow is made from synthetic materials that are naturally hypoallergenic. This means they prevent bacteria, mould, dust mites, and fungus from growing. If you’re an asthma or allergy sufferer, this type of pillow is for you. As memory foam pillows prevent these nasties from building up, it offers a safer and more hygienic choice for your family’s wellbeing. 4. Snoring Relief Does your partner complain that you snore? Snoring can be caused by varying factors, including sleep apnoea, congestion and more. But an often-unacknowledged cause of snoring can be an individual’s sleeping posture. The right sleeping posture will keep your airways aligned and open, whilst the wrong sleeping posture will do the opposite. A memory foam pillow will help to keep your head and neck aligned with the spine, allowing the airways to remain open and in-turn reducing snoring. 5. Easy to Clean A memory foam pillow is easy to clean. The best pillows come with a machine-washable cover that you can remove and wash. Then all you need to do is spot clean any stains on your pillow and you’re ready to sleep again. The Bambi memory foam pillow range all come with removable covers which are machine washable, offering an easy way to maintain your pillow cleanliness. 6. Long Lasting Memory foam pillows are usually more expensive than the pillows you can get at some department stores. But there’s a good reason for this. Aside from the extra comfort and support, a pillow made with memory foam is naturally more durable. Cheaper pillows are less dense and usually only last about six months before they become floppy and non-supportive. But a memory foam pillow can last up to three years if you look after it, which means that these pillows can be more cost-effective over time. 7. Cool in Summer and Warm in Winter Australia’s weather can be extreme. And there’s nothing worse than trying to sleep when it’s 35 degrees outside and your bed feels like a sauna, or when you can’t get warm enough in the winter. The right pillow can help with both of these problems. The Bambi Encore Memory Foam Cool Touch Dual Surface Pillow is a great choice adapt to the changing of seasons. With a unique cooling phase change material on one side and on the other, a Tencel® blend moisture-wicking fabric perfect for year round-use, it’ll be your perfect comfort companion in summer and winter. 8. Relatively Inexpensive It’s worth it to invest in a memory foam pillow and there is a range of options for every budget meaning no one has to miss out on the benefits of owning a memory foam pillow. Bambi’s memory foam pillows range in price from $129-$199, offering a range of features dependant on what you are looking for. Bambi’s Memory Foam Pillows Choosing a pillow isn’t always easy. With longer and cooler nights, it’s easy to think that getting a good night’s sleep in winter is simple. But for some, winter can wreak havoc on sleep quantity and quality - making every night unpleasant. Here’s how to set yourself up for the best sleep possible this season. As the temperature drops and the nights draw in earlier, there’s nothing quite as good as curling up in bed, snug and warm, protected from the outdoor elements. A good night’s sleep involves more than climbing into bed and hoping you’ll drift off as quickly as possible. It’s an experience made up of several things, each adding an extra layer of comfort and support for a deeper, more restorative sleep. To help you get the most out of your time awake and encourage good sleep in winter, here are a few things to consider. Once you’ve created your own perfect conditions, getting in restful and comfy shut-eye becomes much easier. Boost Warmth in Winter To enjoy the best sleep possible, you want to boost the warmth of your bed without getting too hot or sweaty. From electric blankets to hot water bottles, there are a few different ways that people do this. One of the best ways to get a good night’s sleep in winter is to use a Wool Underblanket. Wool Underblankets, such as the Bambi Wool on Wool Underblanket, are a fantastic way to add an extra layer of insulation to your mattress, boosting comfort and keeping you perfectly warm during the colder months. Using 100% natural Australian wool and available in 5 different sizes, natural thermal-regulation and moisture-wicking properties keep you at the perfect temperature for quality sleep - minus the sweaty and clammy feeling of being too hot. Another fantastic option is Alpaca fleece, such as the Moodmaker Superior Alpaca Quilt. Alpaca is seen as the gold standard when it comes to creating the ultimate sleeping conditions for any season. Alpaca fleece keeps you warm in winter and cool in the summer, is naturally hypoallergenic and flame resistant and improves airflow and breathability. It’s also silky soft, lightweight and adds a much-needed touch of luxury to every bed. Prevent Moisture & Overheating at Night For many people, finding that perfect balance of warmth and comfort in bed can be tricky. Whether you’re a hot sleeper, struggling to optimise your bedding temperature or affected by menopause or a health condition that raises your body temperature - airflow and moisture-wicking can drastically improve the quality and quantity of your sleep. Warmth is an integral part of a good sleep - but being hot isn’t. In fact, better sleep is experienced when your core body temperature drops by 2-3 degrees celsius. So if you tend to run hot at night, Bambi Sleepwise bedding can help you achieve optimal sleep temperatures, keeping you at the perfect core temperature while wicking away moisture. Letting you choose what’s best for you throughout the year. If sweating and clamminess are issues for you, look for products made with natural materials and fibres. Thread counts are important, but the higher the count, the tighter the weave - resulting in a restriction of airflow and an increase of overheating at night. A combination approach can work well, with a wool underblanket on top of your mattress and a cooling cover and pillow for a more personalised sleep experience. Provide Optimal Support for Your Neck Waking up with neckache, shoulder and upper back pain or headaches on a regular basis are good indicators that your pillows are not providing adequate support while you sleep. Everything from the firmness of your pillow to the material it’s made from will play a role - as will the sleeping positions you use. Back Sleepers - Medium profile pillows work best for back sleepers, elevating the head and neck for maximum comfort and support. As back sleepers place added pressure on the pillow, a medium-firm to firm pillow is the best option. The Moodmaker Superior Alpaca Pillow is an amazing option for back sleepers. Side Sleepers - Those who tend to sleep on their side will benefit most from a high profile pillow, mainly as there is a more significant gap between the head and the mattress that requires extra support. This will relieve any stress and tension on the neck, keeping your spine and neck perfectly aligned. Front Sleepers - If you find yourself sleeping on your tummy more than in any other position, choosing a low profile pillow will provide comfort and support as well as keep you cosy. Most adult front sleepers place their hands and arms beneath the pillow, so a low profile gives the perfect height to support the neck and spine. Choose a Higher Loft Quilt The higher the loft number of your quilt, the more weight and warmth it will provide. But, of course, that doesn’t mean a high loft will make you clammy and sweaty at night - especially when choosing materials that offer improved air circulation. One of the best quilt fillings to use is wool due to its versatility in all seasons. High lofts (430 GSM) provide exceptional warmth during the cool winter months without being overly heavy. In regions that experience particularly harsh winters, super loft quilts (500 GSM) offer maximum protection from very cold conditions. A good all-rounder is an All-Seasons Quilt, comprising of 2 quilts in one. Easily detachable, you can join them together during winter and switch to a single quilt during summer. Focus on Feel & Texture Anyone who’s ever stayed in a high-end hotel knows that the feeling of luxurious fabrics against the skin can help you drift off quicker. A good night’s sleep involves warmth, reduced moisture and comfort - with the feel of certain materials creating a comforting and relaxing sensation. Wool, microfibre, and TENCEL® are all fabrics that feel as soft as silk against the skin. So when looking at your mattress, a mattress topper can add sumptuous comfort that gives a cloud-like feeling you’ll love. Remember, high thread counts with materials like cotton can actually feel rough against the skin due to a tighter weave and a denser finish. A thread count of between 300-400 is considered best, but the feel of the fabric is far more important than the number. More absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen, TENCEL®, a new-age material made from eucalyptus, uses less water in its production while providing out-of-this-world comfort. Sleep Better, Naturally - with Bambi Get the most amazing night’s sleep possible this winter by selecting bedding made for comfort. With a wide variety of sustainable Australian fibres, world-class manufacturing and new-age materials, achieving the perfect body temperature has never looked - or felt - so good. From luxury quilts and mattress toppers to cloud-like pillows and sumptuous under blankets, find everything you need to keep you cosy this winter. SHOP NOW

It’s no secret that mattresses suffer from constant wear and tear over their lifetime. It doesn’t matter how careful you are, spills, tears and accidents are going to happen. Another issue is the buildup of allergens, pests and infestations – even in the most spotless of homes. There are several ways to keep a mattress well protected, including mattress covers, mattress toppers, mattress pads and mattress protectors. Each of these provides a solution to help prolong the life of your mattress, making your bed cleaner, healthier and more comfortable. But with so many options available, it can be confusing trying to choose the right one for your needs. Mattress Protection 101 Unlike quilts, bedsheets and pillows, washing a mattress isn’t as simple as throwing it in the laundry machine and hanging it out to dry. If you’ve ever tried to clean a mattress, you’ll know just how tough it can be. Sure, sponging it down can help remove surface stains – but these are purely cosmetic and don’t actually impact the hygiene of the mattress. This is where mattress protectors come into play. They help prevent moisture, dirt and allergens from being absorbed into your mattress while keeping it in cosmetically good condition. Instead of trying to steam clean your mattress every few months, you simply take the mattress protector off, run it through the washing machine and leave it to dry. It really is the quickest way to get rid of dirt from your bed. In the most basic terms, a mattress protector is a machine washable cover that adds an extra layer of protection, thus prolonging its lifespan. With that said, there are a variety of different types of mattress toppers out there. The most versatile type that offers all-round protection is the waterproof mattress protector – ideal for a whole host of scenarios. What do Waterproof Mattress Protectors Help With? Waterproof mattress protectors are designed to provide multi-level mattress protection. From young children wetting the bed to hormonal imbalances that cause excessive sweating, they prevent mattresses from soaking up these fluids like a sponge. Spills, accidents and stains Potty training, menopause and high metabolism can all lead to excess moisture from the body seeping into the mattress. A little water spill here and there won’t cause any issues. However, bacteria and mites feed off of urine, sweat and skin cells, resulting in bad odours and increased levels of allergens. A waterproof mattress protector acts as an impermeable barrier, preventing all types of moisture from being absorbed. Bed bugs if there’s one thing most people fear having in their bed, it’s bed bugs. These pesky little critters feed on human blood – and what better place for them to set up home than in your mattress, bedding, and pillows. A waterproof mattress protector creates an impenetrable barrier between them and you. If bed bugs are an issue you’re experiencing, a waterproof box protector that encases the entire mattress and closes with a zipper can help resolve the issue. We recommend the Protectiva Cotton/Bamboo stretch knit waterproof mattress protector – Fully encased Cotton/Bamboo Waterproof Mattress Protector. Common allergens The most common cause of allergies is dust mites. Over the course of several months and years, dust mite colonies can grow to epic proportions. While fitted bed sheets can help keep them at bay to a certain degree, they won’t offer sufficient protection in the long run. A waterproof mattress protector cuts off the food source that dust mites feed on while preventing them from coming into contact with your skin. They also help with other allergens, including mildew, mould and pet dander. How to Choose the Best Children’s Pillow How to Choose the Best Waterproof Mattress Protector Choosing an appropriate mattress protector takes more than simply choosing the cheapest option and hoping for the best. You can be overwhelming at trying to understand all of the requirements to fulfil, but a few common pointers will help. Here are a few things to consider when looking to make a purchase. How to choose the best fit It would be easy to assume that a king-size mattress protector would be sufficient for a queen-sized bed. Unfortunately, when it comes to achieving proper protection, you need something that fits as snuggly as a glove. To find the perfect size for your bed, you’ll need to measure the length, width and depth of your mattress. By purchasing the correct size protector, you can sleep soundly at night safe in the knowledge that every inch of your mattress is protected. Try to find a protector with built-in securing features. These may be fitted elasticated corners or straps that secure the protector in place, preventing it from shifting in the middle of the night. What is the best material Regardless of your budget, using a breathable mattress protector should be toward the top of your list. It may seem counterintuitive to include waterproof and breathable in the same sentence – but it’s something that is actually possible. Certain materials feature microscopic holes that are large enough to allow air molecules through while being small enough to prevent mites, bed bugs and allergens. Bamboo waterproof mattress protectors are a prime example of this. The design of the breathing holes also means that moisture doesn’t leak through to the mattress. Without breathability, it can lead to increased overheating at night causing you to sweat more. Airflow is an important part of good hygiene, helping eliminate odours, reduce bacteria and keep things dry. Tencel, bamboo and cotton are all fantastic fabrics designed to increase comfort and protection when combined with a waterproof backing. How to Choose the Best Mattress Topper Is it easy to clean? At the end of the day, a mattress protector is designed to keep your mattress in as good a condition as possible. It would be pointless to keep your mattress clean but allow a dirty mattress protector to be against your skin. Ease of cleaning should be a top priority, especially if you value a better night’s sleep. The best waterproof mattress protectors will be easy to remove and put on, machine washable and fast drying. The Bambi Protective Cotton & Bamboo waterproof mattress protector is the perfect choice for those who appreciate eco-friendly luxury – minus the hassles and complications of hand washing or dry cleaning. Making the Right Choice At Bambi, our range of luxurious eco-friendly waterproof mattress protectors are designed to provide maximum protection while providing superior comfort. With the average mattress getting roughly eight hours of use a day, things can start to get a little uncomfortable over time. From deteriorating materials to lumpiness, mould and bacteria, it can all contribute to an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Different parts of the bed should perform different functions. A mattress should provide maximum support and comfort for the back. Pillows should alleviate stress on the shoulders and neck. While quilts work to keep you at an optimal temperature for a better rest. One of the most important, yet often overlooked parts of a well-made bed is a mattress topper. These come in all different types of materials to further improve comfort, support and warmth. Best of all, they can extend the lifespan of your mattress by several years. To help you decide which type of topper will be best for you, let’s take a look at them in a little more detail. What Exactly Are Mattress Toppers? Before we dive in with our review of mattress toppers, let’s first clear up a common misconception. Many people get confused between mattress protectors and toppers. While they are both used on the mattress, there are some big differences between them. A mattress protector is designed to protect mattresses from sweat, dirt, accidental spills and everyday wear and tear. They create an impermeable layer between you and the mattress. However, more often than not they don’t offer any additional support or comfort. On the flip side, mattress toppers are designed to provide an additional layer of softness on top of the mattress. They can provide further support and improve sleep overall. Things to consider when choosing a mattress topper. Price Mattress toppers vary in price from budget to luxury. Typically, high-end toppers have a longer lifespan and provide more benefits to the body and to your sleep. Materials will also play a big part in the overall price. It may seem to be a better option to buy cheap, but this can cost you in the long term. The more often you need to replace your topper, the more the costs start to add up. Pain Relief & Support When in pain, people are likely to spend more time in bed. This is especially true for those with chronic illnesses. A mattress topper can help alleviate aches and pains, arthritic joints, and provide support to the spine for improved sleep. Making the right choice between comfort and support can make all the difference to quality of life. Comfort & Thickness Optimal sleep is achieved when both comfort and support are combined. Those with arthritis will appreciate the gentle support yet soft cushioning provided by memory foam. If a hard bed is causing backache, then something a little thicker will help ease things up. The thinner the topper is, the better quality the mattress will need to be. Body Heat At night, body temperatures tend to change. Some of us get too hot and others too cold. Both down and wool types are excellent for dispersing heat. Cooling gel toppers are also a great choice too. Allergies Some allergies may be to the materials, others to dust mites and bacteria. Anyone with allergies to latex, wool or down may find that their symptoms worsen when introducing these into the bed.Likewise, dust mites can cause asthma attacks and breathing difficulties. Mattress toppers combined with a mattress protector can help minimise mites and allergens. Ease of cleaning Some materials are easier to clean than others. As an example, feathers will be much harder to clean than memory foam or wool. The majority of toppers are easy to clean and dry. However, using a mattress protector on top will help reduce the number of times you need to launder the topper. Simply whip off the protector, wash it, dry it, and then put it back on. Warranty No matter the type of topper you buy, you need to make sure it has a warranty. This is a guarantee that your investment is well protected, and the product will perform as expected. Without a warranty, you are not protected in cases of damage, deterioration or lack of function. Any decent manufacturer will provide you with a minimum of at least 1 year as this is when most problems arise, if at all. The Different Types of Mattress Toppers Mattress toppers come in a whole range of different materials. They are not the cheapest product in the world, so it’s important to choose one that enhances your sleep instead of ruining it. When choosing the right type for you, it’s an investment well made. Here are some of the most common types of toppers on the market: Memory foam Gel memory foam mattress topper Microfibre blends Wool (topper and under blanket) Memory Foam Toppers Memory foam mattress toppers are by far the most popular choice of topper. They offer a variety of densities and thicknesses that provide more finely-tuned comfort and support. Made out of polyurethane, chemicals are used in the process to create a denser, more pliable material. The majority of memory foam mattress toppers are also recyclable, meaning they won’t go into a landfill at the end of their lifetime. While perfect for almost everyone, there are a few things to look out for. Pros Soft, comfy and lightweight Cushions joints to relieve pressure and pain Improves comfort of old or hard beds Available in many different depths Ideal for improving sleep Cons Very absorbable, making odour an issue Does not regulate body temperature Can be expensive to buy Reduces ease of turning in bed at night Sometimes has a strange smell when new Gel Toppers Gel infused mattress toppers are not made completely of cooling gel crystals. They use convoluted memory foam as the main carrier. They also offer improved airflow while the gel crystals warm at a slower rate than the other materials. This type of topper is perfect for those going through menopause or with an above average body temperature. However, it’s not ideal for mattresses that offer poor support. For cooling, there are also other types of mattress toppers that offer a similar effect. Pros Maintains a cooler temperature when sleeping Provides increased breathability and airflow Encourages a better night’s sleep Easy to wash and keep hygienic Cons Not ideal for those who like a hot bed Doesn’t offer great support on hard beds Can be very expensive compared to standard memory foam Not easy to find on the market Microfibre Toppers When it comes to mattress toppers, microfibre fill is the cheapest type around. Of course, quality is often reflected in price and polyester blend toppers offer very little in the way of support. On the flip side, they are great for improving comfort at an affordable price. They resemble a traditional quilt, but with a square panel design. While very soft and fluffy to begin with, they compress over time and provide a less than adequate sleeping experience. Some things to be aware of include: Pros Very cheap compared to other types available Readily available in most bedding stores Bambi’s come with a 2-year guarantee Provides quick and easy softness to hard beds Typically, they are odour-free Great for children or occasional use Cons Tends to deteriorate quickly over time Offers minimal support to the back and joints People may find them overly hot at night Have a habit of going lumpy and distorted with continued use Will most likely it need to be replaced yearly Wool Toppers / Underblankets Wool is nature’s miracle. Soft yet supportive, they keep you snug during the cooler months and cool during the warmer months. For those who suffer from overheating at night, wool under blankets are a great option due to the fact that they don’t retain heat. While not as soft and sumptuous as many other toppers, they offer great comfort and an additional layer of support for those who like a medium firm bed. It’s important to note that wool is an animal by-product, therefore it’s not a great option for vegans and vegetarians. Here are a few things to be aware of when looking at purchasing a wool mattress topper. Pros One of the most durable natural fibres around Naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial Helps create optimal sleeping temperatures throughout the year Doesn’t create an overly soft feel to the bed Cons Is on the more expensive end of the types available Can have a strange odour when brand new Not easy to find in many bedding stores Not suitable for vegans or those with wool allergies Eco Friendly Topper Options When choosing a mattress topper, many people are becoming much more eco aware and searching for sustainable options. There are a few things you can do to ensure that your purchase is as good for you as it is for the environment. When you go eco, you can sleep sweetly at night knowing you’re doing your bit. Aim to buy products that are made in Australia, with Australian materials. This helps to cut out carbon emissions from overseas imports. Look for mattress toppers that support local farmers and business instead of supporting unregulated factories and unfair labour practices overseas. Ensure your topper is 100% recyclable. Landfill is not eco friendly and is becoming an ever growing worry round the world. Look for the mark of quality and durability. The less you need to change your topper, the better it is for the environment. A great bonus of using eco-friendly options is that these are the ones that tend to be anti allergens. Natural materials are less likely to trigger asthma and allergies due to their antimicrobial properties. While synthetic materials may be great for some people, especially those on a budget. They are often lacking in many of the benefits offered by natural options. Read more10 Reasons You Need To Invest In A Mattress Protector
Did you know that the average mattress will last between six to ten years? Innerspring and hybrid coil mattresses have the lowest lifespan of approximately six to seven years. While, latex and memory foam mattresses can last anywhere between ten and fifteen years. As you will be sleeping on the same mattress for many years to come, it’s important to make sure that it stays as clean and hygienic as possible. Both moisture and bacteria can destroy the internal structure of a mattress, which can lead to a myriad of health conditions and additional replacement costs. Of course, there are always ways to boost the lifespan of your mattress, including using a high-quality, eco-friendly mattress protector. Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of a Bambi mattress protector on your bed, body and the environment. 1. Protects Your Investment Mattresses can be hard on the wallet, so it makes perfect sense to protect your investment as much as possible. Many mattresses come with warranties, which can become null and void if your mattress becomes stained, damaged or excessively dirty. The easiest way to protect your investment is to invest in a high-quality mattress protector. In the past, mattress protectors were uncomfortable and manufactured from synthetic materials. This resulted in a clean mattress but an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Not ideal for a happy and healthy life. The Bambi Luxury Tencel® Waterproof Mattress Protector keeps both mattresses and comfort covered. Using a silky-smooth fabric woven from the pulp of eucalyptus trees, this naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial protector comes with an impressive 10-year warranty. It’s not only great for your skin and your mattress, but also for the planet too. BUY NOW 2. Good for the Environment Depending on the type of mattress you have, many of its internal components cannot be recycled. This can result in your mattress being burned as waste or thrown into landfill, where it could spend more than 500 years being broken down. Obviously, this is not great for the environment or many of earth’s delicate ecosystems. Unfortunately, poorly maintained mattresses need to be disposed of more often than well-protected ones, which only further contributes to the problem. Mattress protectors can help you hold onto your mattress for longer, but not all protectors are made equal. Some are constructed from environmentally harmful materials, making them unsuitable for recycling or composting. My Bambi Mattress protectors are made from natural eco-friendly materials that are as good for your mattress as they are for the environment. With fibres made from eucalyptus pulp to natural cotton and pure bamboo, sustainability and environment take centre stage. High-quality bed care doesn’t need to be damaging. Purchase an eco-friendly pure bamboo waterproof mattress protector today! BUY NOW 3. Improves Mattress Hygiene While most people keep their bedding clean, they often overlook the importance of mattress hygiene. On average, we spend between 8 to 10 hours in bed every day. This makes mattresses one of the most used objects in the home. Unfortunately, this also means we’re most likely not the only ones in the bed. An unprotected mattress can be home to: Bacteria, including E. Coli Layers of dead skin cells Bed bugs and dust mites Silverfish and fleas Up to 16 types of fungi Sweat and fluid buildup Airborne pollutants Pet hair and fecal matter Decaying food crumbs Not only is it disturbing to know critters and pathogens could be lurking in your mattress, but you could be placing your health at risk too! Whether you need a king size mattress protector, a bamboo waterproof mattress protector or one that is eco-friendly, Bambi has a size and type perfect for all mattresses. Check out the full range here! 4. Mattress Protectors Help Prevent Allergies Your mattress can play host to a variety of allergens. Two of the most common are bed bugs and dust mites; both of which love to take up residence in mattress stitching, corners and crevices. Between 1999 and 2006, bed bug infestations rose by an astonishing 4,500% across all Australian states. Aside from uncomfortable and unattractive bites, bed bugs and mites can have many more adverse effects on human health too. From triggering asthma attacks to developing dermatitis, an unprotected mattress can become a haven for them. The My Bambi Cotton/Bamboo Fully Encased Waterproof Mattress Protector can help prevent bed bug infestations and allergies from ruining your life. Featuring a waterproof top and side membrane, simply slip it over your mattress like a quilt cover and zip it shut. Complete mattress protection is guaranteed ensuring the only things touching your skin at night are your bed covers. 5. Easy to Maintain Cleaning a mattress can be an expensive and labour-intensive process. The only way to properly clean a mattress is to hire professionals to come and do it for you. This is because most people don’t have the tools needed to penetrate all the way through to eliminate dirt, debris and pests. A mattress protector, on the other hand, keeps your mattress nice and clean all year round. Maintaining your My Bambi protector is quick and easy. Simply remove it from the bed, put it on a gentle wash and then let it air-dry. The great thing about Bambi mattress protectors is that they don’t deteriorate with repeated laundering, and each comes with its own guarantee. 6. Prevents Odours from Bed Wetting Young children typically go through a phase of bed wetting at some point or another. This can result in stained bed sheets and mattresses that are left with a less than pleasant odour. When combined with being woken up throughout the night to have the sheets changed, it can be hard on your little ones to get a good night’s sleep! The My Bambi Waterproof Sheet Protector helps by providing an additional layer of protection on top of the sheets. Made from 100% Australian cotton flannelette, it provides comfortable protection throughout the night or when traveling; letting little heads stay firmly on their pillow. If an accident does happen, keeping the waterproof sheet protector clean is as easy as running it through the washing machine. Two tuckable side flaps eliminate the need to wake your child to lift the mattress in the middle of the night. While the two-year warranty will outlast most stages of bed wetting for fresher, cleaner mattresses and sheets. 7. Improves Comfort and Sleep Quality The primary purpose of a mattress protector is to help increase your mattresses lifespan, but comfort is also key. For many people, keeping cool under thick quilts can be challenging. Whether you are a hot sleeper or going through the menopause, you no longer need to choose between comfort or function. My Bambi Cooltouch Active Waterproof Mattress Protectors feature an upper layer of MICA mineral fibres woven into the fabric. This natural, low heat-conducting fibre helps provide an ‘always cool’ fabric to skin experience. Unlike most gel infused materials, MICA retains its contact cooling abilities, even after repeated laundering. Cooling abilities aside, it also comes with all of the same features you expect from a high-quality mattress protector. The underside includes a breathable waterproof membrane that improves airflow while preventing moisture from breaking through. Available in seven sizes and coming with a 10-year warranty, comfort and function can both take centre stage. 8. Affordable Mattress Protection There’s no denying that replacing a mattress can be expensive and time consuming. The easiest way to save money over the long run is by investing in a high-quality, comfortable mattress protector. With average spends clocking in at between $500 and $2,000, the longer your mattress lasts, the more you can save. Bambi has a large selection of eco-friendly mattress protectors suitable for all types of mattress and human needs. Both quilted and waterproof options are available, with a choice selection of sustainable and durable fibres to choose from. With waterproof protector start from $17.50 and quilted ones start from $39.00, every budget is catered for. For the maximum lifespan of your mattress and other bedding, a range of pillow protectors, fitted sheets and toppers are also available. The best part is that you don’t only save money on replacement costs; you also do your part in helping the environment too. 9. Useful All Year Round With each season comes different needs, from staying warm to keeping cool. A mattress protector can keep you and your mattress well protected come summer, winter, spring and autumn. During the summer months, increased sweating and humidity can seep into your mattress causing odours, fungal growth and stains. The Bambi Cooltouch Active Waterproof Mattress Protector helps keep you cool while allowing your bed to breathe. Throughout the winter months, you may appreciate something a little warmer such as the quilted Bambi Sensitiva Embossed Microfibre Mattress Protector. The high-performance embossed filling adds a touch of soft warmth. And all while helping your mattress stay in perfect condition. 10. Mattress Protectors Available in Many Sizes Just as beds come in all different shapes and sizes, so do many mattress protectors. When you buy a Bambi mattress protector, you will be able to choose between seven different sizes (depending on the protector chosen). To give you an idea of the different sizes, the following are common: Single Long Single Double Queen King Single King Super King When deciding on which size to buy, it’s important to make sure you choose the right size for your mattress. As an example, if you have a king-size bed, a king size mattress protector will fit much better than a king single mattress protector. This will result in a snug fit that offers maximum comfort and ongoing protection. Maximise Your Mattress Comfort Combining mattress toppers with mattress protectors can provide you with a deep and luxurious experience. Experience the most comfortable night’s sleep possible, and all with minimal fuss or effort. From gel-infused memory foam and Sensitiva ball fibre to Matilda wool and Convoluted memory foam toppers, My Bambi has a size and style for all bed types. Protect More Than Just Your Mattress When it comes to keeping your bedding clean, it’s always a good idea to cover all areas. We’ve looked at some of the main reasons why you need a mattress protector, but your pillows are just as important. Pillow protectors provide the same fantastic protection against dirt, moisture, dust mites and allergens, helping you get more out of your sleep. From eco-friendly materials to heat regulating fabrics, My Bambi Pillow Protectors are as gentle on your pillow as they are on the environment. Besides Pillow Protectors, we also have an extensive range of luxury pillows to choose from, giving you bed to head comfort and protection. If you’re not sure which pillow is best for your needs, check out our guide on How to Choose the Best Pillow for You.
Read moreUnderstanding Thread Counts
UNDERSTANDING THREAD COUNT (AND WHY, UNFORTUNATELY, HIGHER ISN’T BETTER) In recent years the term ‘thread-count’ has become synonymous with the process of buying bedding – in particular sheets, quilt covers, pillowcases etc. We’ve all been led to believe that the higher the thread count, the better the quality of the product. But is this really true – or is it a well executed marketing exercise? What exactly is thread count? Put simply, thread count is the amount of threads woven together in a square inch. It is worked out by counting the lengthwise (warp) threads, and then the width-wise (weft) threads. Once counted, the amount of weft threads and warp threads are added together to form the thread count. (E.g. a fabric with 100 warp threads and 100 weft threads is said to have a thread count of 200). How can thread count be misunderstood? There are two main reasons why thread count has become overused and misunderstood: The first is that it is the quality of the fibre – the yarn size, the finishing and the construction – which really matters. An inferior fabric with a thread count of 800 is going to be of lesser quality than a superior fabric with a thread count of 300. The second, and most important, reason is that some rather unscrupulous manufacturers use ‘creative maths’ to boost their thread counts. “Its is all about inflating the thread count to inflate the price tag,” according to Consumer Reports (an independent, not for profit organization). “If a product states that it has a 1,200 thread count, be very wary, since fitting 1,200 threads into a square inch is actually bordering on the impossible. In the spirit of free enterprise and competition, manufacturers battle to calculate their thread counts high, higher and highest. They count not just each thread, but each fibre (called plies) that make up each thread. So a single thread might be four plies twisted, or braided, together. One manufacturer will call that one thread, while another manufacturer will call it four threads”.As proof of this, Consumer Reports hired an independent textile lab to count the threads in a $280 queen sheet set with a manufacturer-stated thread count of 1,200. The lab counted 416 threads per inch… just 35 percent of what was claimed. Because thread count is a scientific term, and there are strict standards surrounding it, the US National Textile Association requested the US Federal Trade Commission become involved in the thread count issue. As a result of this, in 2008 a major US chain that operates in Australia was sued for mispresenting thread counts on their Egyptian sheet products. Why can high-thread count sheets feel clammy? Another issue many people don’t realise is that the higher the thread count, the hotter or clammier the sheets will be on a warm summer’s night. The reason for this comes down to simple maths: if a sheet has a thread count of 500 (i.e. it has 500 threads per square inch) the threads are extremely close together and allow for almost no air to pass through the fabric, affecting the breathability of the product.Breathability is recognised by sleep experts as one of the most important factors in getting a great nights sleep. If your bedding products allow air flow you get a much healthier, more restful night’s sleep. What should I look for in sheets then? Experts agree that a thread count of between180-300 is best for bedding. However, the best advice we can give is to purchase linen by feel, not by thread pedigree. Bed linen should be soft, breathable, wrinkle free, easy-care and have good drape. For those interested in purchasing bedding that has these attributes, but is also kind to the environment, it would be worthwhile considering Bambi’s TENCEL® bedding. TENCEL®, which is made from plantation fibre (Eucalyptus pulp), has a thread count of 275 which gives the fabric excellent breathability. In addition, the production of TENCEL® uses a fraction of the world’s precious water resources when compared to cotton. Bambi’s TENCEL® products wick 50% more moisture than cotton meaning they stay dry and cool all night long. They also hold 2000 times less bacteria than synthetics and a whopping 200 times less bacteria than cotton sheets, which makes them perfect for anyone interested in a healthy night’s sleep, but most particularly babies and anyone with sensitive skin. Bambi produce many TENCEL® products including pure TENCEL® Sheets, Separates, Quilt Covers and Quilts as well as Pillows and Mattress Protectors. Please check out our website for more information. 10 Reasons You Need To Invest In A Mattress Protector TENCEL – The latest ‘Must Have’ Fibre Said to be softer than silk, more absorbent than cotton, and cooler than linen, TENCEL® is being proclaimed as the latest ‘must- have’ fibre. So what is TENCEL®, and why is it taking centre-stage in the world of sleep? Here we take a look at what makes this textile so unique. Eco-friendlyWhile many fibres claim to be environmentally friendly, TENCEL® goes above and beyond. Made from the wood pulp of sustainable tree farms, TENCEL® can be grown on marginal land (i.e. land that cannot sustain crops or farming), is fully recyclable, and 100% biodegradable. Produced via an advanced ‘closed loop’ spinning process which uses non-toxic solvent, it has minimal impact on the environment and is highly economical in the use of energy and water. In fact, when compared to cotton, the fibre yield from TENCEL® is almost ten times higher per acre, and the cultivation process uses an incredible 10-20 times less water. (And that has to make for a healthier environment). As well as being eco-friendly, TENCEL® has a number of advantages that very few fibres feature – and certainly not all in one fibre. Moisture Absorption: TENCEL® has incredible moisture absorption and wicking properties and in fact wicks 50% more moisture than cotton. But what does this really mean and how does it impact the way we sleep? Well, firstly, it allows us to sleep in a dry, cool environment. With cotton or other bedding fibres, sleepers often report waking up in damp sheets. This happens because, like it or not, we lose nearly 1 litre of fluid a night into our bedding. With TENCEL®, this moisture doesn’t soak into the fabric – instead it wicks into the atmosphere, leaving the sheets completely dry. Secondly, because TENCEL’s absorption and wicking is so effective, TENCEL® is almost incapable of holding bacteria. Proven in tests to hold 2000 times less bacteria than synthetics and 200 times less than cotton, allergy and asthma sufferers and anyone with sensitive skin can be assured that this fabric is about as healthy as it gets. And finally, this moisture wicking gives a naturally cool feel to the fibre, making it an excellent choice for hot sleepers, babies and toddlers. Silky-Smooth: There are few people who could touch TENCEL® and not be impressed by its incredibly soft, luxurious feel. Made possible by very fine hairs found on the outer fibres of the fabric, TENCEL® feels like silk and has a wonderful drape. (And as an added benefit for people wh Easy-Care. It would be easy to believe that a fibre that sounds as delicate and sophisticated as TENCEL® might need special care. But in fact, the opposite is true. TENCEL® is surprisingly durable , and authentic TENCEL® products are also odourless, pre¬ shrunk, and can be machine washed and tumble-dried. When washing, there’s not even a need for fabric softener or whitening agents – which helps in further saving our precious planet. 10 Reasons You Need To Invest In A Mattress Protector

Why do I need a Mattress Protector? As a general rule, if you have a mattress, you need a mattress protector. This is not only to protect it from stains, but also from dust mites, allergens, bacteria and mold. Also, regardless of the material, your mattress is made from, the most important factor is that your mattress should never come into contact with moisture. When moisture enters a mattress, mold and mildew can form, leading to the growth of nasty, and often harmful, bacteria. Unfortunately, many people are not aware that moisture is not only caused by spills and upsets but also occurs naturally in the body every night. In fact, on average, a person will lose almost ½ litre of fluid a night which soaks straight into the mattress. Naturally, when two people are sleeping, this goes up to nearly a litre – meaning your mattress is soaking up in excess of 350 litres of perspiration every year. In addition to this, a mattress protector will also guard against dust mites that flourish in mattresses. They thrive on shredded/dead skin – and considering we lose almost 600,000 particles of skin an hour, that’s a lot to flourish on. What is the best way to protect my mattress? For the reasons stated above, a good quality waterproof mattress protector is the ideal way to protect your mattress and in turn, your family. Our Bambi waterproof protectors utilise the highest quality materials available, making them whisper quiet, safe and comfortable. How do Bambi Mattress Protectors stay on? Many inferior mattress protectors are simply attached to the mattress with elasticated bands. This means the protector will slip around or even come adrift completely whenever there is movement on the mattress. However, you can rest assured this won’t happen with a Bambi Mattress Protector since our products feature a tightly fitted skirt which keeps the protector securely in place all night long. What are the benefits of Quilted Mattress Protectors? Quilted mattress protectors help to hold the interior fibre in place and prevent the occurrence of uneven padding. They also add extra cushioning and support to the sleeper while allowing natural breathability. What about warranties? All of our mattress protectors have product warranties which guarantee the quality and durability of the product. In addition, our Protectiva Luxury Tencel protector, our Protectiva fully encased protector and our Tencel Health Assurance packs all come with a 10 year mattress replacement warranty, meaning that if you buy your mattress protector at the same time as the mattress, we cover your mattress surface against stains for 10 years. Our Cotton Health Assurance Pack has the same warranty but for a period of 5 years. Understanding Thread Count Which Bambi Waterproof Protector is best for me? (If you’ve never felt CoolTouch, we invite you to visit your local Bambi retailer – we’re sure you’ll be surprised at just how amazingly cool this fabric feels). Do I need a Pillow Protector too? Absolutely. A protector is as vital for a pillow as it is for a mattress, as the same amount of perspiration and other fluids are being absorbed into your pillow as your mattress. If you are interested in a waterproof pillow protector, consider the Protectiva Bamboo/Cotton Towelling or Stretch-Knit protectors, or the 100% Bamboo pillow protector. Non-waterproof pillow protectors are also available. How do I care for my Mattress Protector? To ensure your mattress stays clean and fresh for many years, simply follow these two simple care instructions:Always ensure you don’t sleep directly on the protector; instead cover with sheets so that you add an extra layer of protection from tears, burns and severe spills. The less the protector is exposed to external elements, the longer it will last.If a spill or upset does occur, the protector should be cleaned straight away to prevent staining. Hot Sleeper? Consider this: Layer your Bedding. Every night our bodies lose moisture . The cause of this could be medical, environmental, temperature or the use of certain materials on the bed. Tip 1 covered mattress protectors. Tip 2 looks at sheets, Pillowcases and Quilt covers. Sheets – When it comes to thread counts ‘more’ is not necessarily better for you. There are many technical arguments for and against high thread counts which can be researched elsewhere. As a general rule, the higher the thread count the lower the breathability of the sheet. Less breathability can exacerbate excessive heat in the bed, . Thread counts of good quality sheets of around 350 – 400 should be considered. How to Choose the Best Mattress Topper Sheets are available in the market in a wide variety of fabrics from Microfibre (polyester) Poly/Cotton (a blend of polyester and cotton) Cotton, Tencel. Man made polyester fibres when used in sheeting, are affordable and durable but as with most polyester based products they do not breath very effectively. Tencel sheets provide excellent moisture dispersion and the fibre has natural anti allergy properties. They are the only sheets to be accepted into the Asthma councils Sensitive Choice programme. Pillowcases – If you purchase design Quilt cover sets which include Pillowcases, be aware of the material. Many of these items are made from Polyester or a blend of Polyester and cotton (even the expensive ones). If you are using the design Pillow case as your main pillow consider that your head and face may be in contact with polyester throughout the night. Not ideal if you are a hot sleeper. Hot Sleeper? Consider this: Layer your Bedding. Every night our bodies lose moisture . The cause of this could be medical, environmental, temperature or the use of certain materials on the bed. Actual Moisture loss quantities vary and are debated. Some suggestions are up to 1 litre a night but we suggest you conduct your own research if you need to quantify this. The causes and implications of moisture loss are connected to the different conditions which exist in our bodies or our bedroom. Much of the moisture will find its way into your bedding and ultimately your mattress itself. Check your pillow, sheets and mattress for yellowing. if they are then that’s usually caused by moisture . Moisture in bedding can contribute to the growth of bacteria which in turn could exasperate allergies in some people. In addition moisture can also be one of the factors exacerbating ‘Hot Sleeping’ experiences. We recommend the selection of material in your bedding which will disperse moisture away from your body. Consider your current bedding and work from the mattress up. Select a waterproof protector with a natural fibre upper layer (the waterproof layer should be in contact with your mattress). The waterproof layer is almost always a Polyester based product, currently the best material to create a moisture barrier. Where possible add an additional quilted protector layer. These are also Mattress Protectors but do not have a waterproof component. This item is normally filled and covered with Cotton or Tencel for improved breathability and will act as a barrier between your body and the waterproof component. Where possible try to minimize the use of Polyester based or filled products. These are man made fibres and whilst low cost, they do not disperse moisture as well as natural fibres do. Read moreThe Connection Between Sleep and Mental and Physical Health
Sleep is often overlooked in our fast-paced and demanding lives. We tend to prioritise work, social engagements, and countless other activities, leaving little time for quality rest. However, the importance of sleep cannot be understated, as it plays a vital role in maintaining our mental and physical well-being. Let's explore the significant impact that sleep has on our overall health and why prioritising it should be a non-negotiable aspect of our lives. Adequate sleep is essential for optimal brain function and mental well-being. Here are a few keyways in which sleep influences our mental health: Emotional Regulation: Quality sleep enhances our ability to regulate emotions, reducing the risk of mood swings, irritability, and emotional instability. Cognitive Function: Sleep plays a crucial role in memory consolidation, learning, and problem-solving abilities. Sufficient rest improves concentration, creativity, and overall cognitive performance. Mental Health Disorders: Sleep deprivation has been linked to an increased risk of developing mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Prioritising sleep can help in preventing or managing these conditions. See below for more tips on how to improve mental health. Apart from mental well-being, sleep also has a profound impact on our physical health. Here's why sleep is crucial for our bodies: Energy Restoration: Sleep allows the body to rest and replenish energy levels. It promotes muscle repair, tissue growth, and the release of growth hormones essential for overall physical development. Immune System Boost: During sleep, the immune system strengthens its defences, helping to fight off infections and diseases. Consistent sleep patterns contribute to a robust immune system. Weight Management: Sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain and obesity. Lack of sleep disrupts hormone regulation, increasing appetite and cravings for unhealthy food. Sufficient sleep supports healthy metabolism and aids in maintaining a healthy weight. Tips for Better Sleep: To reap the benefits of quality sleep, it's important to cultivate good sleep habits. Here are some tips to improve your sleep routine: Establish a Consistent Schedule: Set a regular sleep schedule and try to maintain it even on weekends. This helps regulate your body's internal clock and promotes better sleep quality. Create a Restful Environment: Make your bedroom conducive to sleep by keeping it dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Remove electronic devices that emit stimulating light or sound. Prioritize Relaxation: Establish a pre-sleep routine to wind down before bed. Engage in relaxing activities such as reading, listening to calming music, or practicing meditation or deep breathing exercises. Limit Stimulants: Avoid consuming caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime, as they can interfere with sleep quality and disrupt your sleep cycle. Review your bedding: Is your pillow comfortable? Is your quilt keeping you warm or cool? Is it breathable? Do you find you are congested in bed or sneeze a lot due to allergies? Consider the fibres your bedding is made from and invest in quality products. These play an important role in sleep health and comfort. Natural Bedding Suggestions Moodmaker Australian Wool Quilt.
